For Adults with Developmental Disabilities

A place for adults with developmental disabilities to find Community, Acceptance, and Purpose.

Located at Christmount in Black Mountain, NC, Camp Sunshine is a retreat experience that offers adults with disabilities the opportunity to build connections with peers and others in a caring community.

With the support of our trained staff, attendees will enjoy a variety of activities designed to accentuate strengths and build upon emerging skills and interests.

We want everyone who comes to Camp Sunshine to leave with a greater sense of their inherent value as members of a diverse society, to know that they are appreciated and accepted, and to go back into their home communities with renewed confidence and a feeling of efficacy.

Camper Description

Like all people, our campers have a wide range of skills and abilities. We will do our very best to support each person at their level of need. There are, however, a few limitations to the support we can provide.

We provide staffing at a 1:4 ratio, which means we cannot accommodate:

Severe behavioral challenges (e.g. aggression, running away, property destruction)

Intense medical needs. We can monitor campers taking medication but are unable to provide individual nursing services.

Additionally, Campers should be independent in areas of self care and hygiene or able to complete this tasks without "hands-on" assistance.

Cost

Overnight Camp runs from Monday through Friday and costs $962.

Day Camp Runs Monday Through Friday and costs $275.

Scholarships of up to $500 are available for our overnight camps. When you register, you will be able to apply for a scholarship within the registration.
